Jake Langston wasn't a man to go looking for trouble, though if it found him he'd settle it--with a gun or a soft threat. But the night beautiful Banner Coleman forced his hand, he was lost...
Torn by secrets he'd never shared, Jake Langston had grown to bitter manhood on the wagon train west to Texas. Baptized by the senseless murder of his brother, introduced to passion in the arms of a woman incapable of love, Jake wanted no part of the seductive purity of the spirited daughter of his best friends Ross and Lydia. But on a night when her dearest illusions about love had been shattered, Banner Coleman went in search of the one man who could never refuse her anything. Shame warred with desire--and lost...
In the cold light of morning their guilt stilled their raging passions, and they turned from one another in sorrow and remorse. But when their enemies joined in a plot of jealousy and revenge that threatened all they held dear, they were forced to confront the demons of a shadowy past. Only then would they be free to face the new day, a future limited only by their dreams...and their love for each other...

This is one of my all time favorite Sandra Brown books. Set in the old west it has love, betrayal and hot attraction...what more could you ask for in a romance book!

The Texas countryside was wide and wild, the barn was warm and musty, and the passion between Banner Coleman and her parents' best friend, Jake Langston, was going to be the start of trouble. Betrayal had ruined Banner's wedding day, and now on her wedding night she was a jilted bride. Jake was the toughest cowhand in Texas, yet Banner had broken down his resistance, setting loose emotions neither of them expected. Now Jake and Banner were caught up in a scandal that could tear apart a friendship and a family. But theirs wasn't the only sin this rough town outside of lusty Fort Worth. Greed and desire stretched back to a wagon train journey 20 years before, and this cattle land would explode once more with a man's hunger and a woman's enduring love.

On her wedding day Banner Coleman was a misty-eyed bride- and a betrayed and jilted woman. The dramatic scene at the altar had shocked the town. It also aroused a storm of emotions-protective and otherwise- in Jake Langston. Best friend to Banner's parents and one of the toughest cowhands in Texas, Jake soon found himself in love with Banner and caught in a scandal that could shatter a family. But theirs wasn't the only affair stirring up trouble in this rough cattle town. Twenty years ago a man had surrendered to temptation. Now the sins of the past would threaten even Banner's happiness... and her future would depend on one woman's enduring love.

Betrayel had ruined Banner Coleman's wedding day, and on her wedding night she was a jilted bride. Jake Langston was her parents' best friend, and the toughest cowhand in Texas, yet Banner's innocence and pain had broken down his resistance, unleashing emotions that surprised them both. Soon Jake and Banner were caught up in a scandal that could shatter a friendship and a family. But theirs isn't the only affair stirring up trouble in this rough cattle town. Twenty years ago the seeds of greed and desire had been sown, and now the Texas landscape would one more reap the wild harvest of a mna's hunger and a woman's enduring love.
