Sabrina Stone: elegant society wife, loving mother of a severely disabled child, tragic portrait of a woman in pain. These are the impressions she conjures for investigative reporter Derek McGill in their first meeting on the rooftop terrace of her Manhattan home. As for Sabrina, it is in their introduction that she senses a deep caring in this man. Sabrina next meets Derek in a maximum security prison-after he is convicted of murder. When curiosity and proximity bid her visit, she finds a hardened man, yet one who retains a germ of caring for her and her son. Sustained by that, Sabrina must make decisions that no wife or mother should ever have to make...and begin to fight for a wronged man's revenge.

Sabrina Stone married wealthy and unwisely, and she's paying the price, wedded to a man who refuses to accept their handicapped son and denying her attraction to reporter Derek McGill, who interviews her for a story on parents of special children. Barbara Delinsky is one of my favorite authors and this book, written in 1987 is an example of one of her best stories. It's about a woman, Sabrina Stone, who struggles to care for her brain-damaged child and threat it has to her marriage. Her life changes when she meet Derek McGill who has been convicted of murder and is in prison. It's all about how love conquers all. A great read!

I wasn't so thrilled with the ending of this book. I felt that the beginning was great, but towards the end the author hurried up to tie up the story neatly.

Sabrina Stone married wealthy and unwisely. And she's paying the price, wedded to a man who refuses to accept their handicapped son and denying her attraction to reporter Derek McGill, who interviews her for a story on parents of special children. Months later, in the midst of a divorce, Sabrina receives a shock: Derek has been unjustly convicted of murder. Impulsively she visits him in prison--and what begins as an act of compassion soon turns into a dangerous and passionate test of courage. For as she tries to save him, Sabrina will discover the most important commitment of all, one that will determine the course of her life, the fate of her child, and the measure of her love.

If you haven't read any of delinsky's books, give them a try. They are usually good and easy to read, just enjoyable.
