The Falco series is my favorite mystery series ever - kind of Sam Spade in Ancient Rome. Clever, especially if you enjoyed Ancient History class.

In this book, Falco stays in Rome and meets up with some very dangerous criminals. Lots of fighting and danger, friendships hanging on by a thread, and new emotions with Helena.

Now as every crook in Rome is scrambling to take over Balbinus's scams, Falco has to deal with heists in the Emporium, murders in the vias, shady deals at the Bower of Venus not to mention his own forgidden romance with a senator's daughter. Meanwhile, Balbinus is said ot be on his way home. And if he is, Falco's life won't be worth a red centum.

Highly entertaining series. Davis brings ancient Rome to life with her characters.

I very much like Lindsey Davis as an author. Historically researched but the history only has a minimal impact on the story.
