Lachlan Lubanach Maclean has decided that it is time to take a wife, and Lady Mairi Macdonald is the perfect candidate. Although some might find Mairi, the most beautiful woman in the Isles, to be a bit too bold and clever--especially for a female-- Lachlan likes a lass with a bit of brass. The only problem is that everyone, including Mairi's father, the lord of the Isles and the king of Hebrides, expects her to wed Alasdair Stewart. They don't call Lachlan "the Wily" for naught though, and he is determined to find a way to convince Mairi to marry him, even if she seems surprisingly resistant to his charms! Scott sets her new medieval series in the beautifully atmospheric Scottish Isles and creatively uses the political intrigues of the times for the plot of Highland Princess, which is perfect for readers who enjoy romances with a rich sense of history.

Takes awhile to get into this story. Well written, enough of a mystery to move it towards the conclusion. Scottish island history was very interesting.

Part of the Lord of the Isles series these stories are written with a lot of historical detail. The twin brothers in the series take a while to grow on you, but you will like them in the end.
