Book Description:
Laced with mystery, SAM'S LETTERS TO JENNIFER combines two unforgettable love stories in a novel that's absolutely impossible to put down. Jennifer returns to the resort village where she grew up to help a beloved relative--and ends up experiencing not one but two of the most amazing love stories she's ever known.

The first is completely unexpected. In a series of letters that Jennifer finds, her relative reveals that she has concealed a huge secret for decades: Her great love is not the man she was married to for all those years. As Jennifer reads about this passionate partnership, she learns more about love's imperatives and secrets than she ever dreamed possible.

And then comes the biggest surprise of all. At a time when she thought she could never love again, Jennifer lets her guard down for a moment--and is suddenly caught up in the greatest flight of exhilaration she's ever known. But, just as suddenly, she learns that this new love comes with an unbearable cost. Jennifer doesn't think she can survive the pain--but the letters she's been reading make her think that love may help her find a way. James Patterson's most recent major international bestseller is The Lake House. He is the author of 26 books and lives in Florida.

James Patterson is a master! I don't read romances, but Sam's Letters to Jennifer and Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas were AWESOME!! (And this review is coming from a guy.)
I read all of Patterson's books and these two are definitely different from his usual string of murder mystery thrillers, but still of the highest quality!!
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone!! (And yes, it's OK for a guy to enjoy a love story!)
Definitely 5+ stars!!

It amazes me that the James Patterson can write such graphic stories as the Alex Cross series and also romance stories. I have read all of his books and couldn't put them down. "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" was the first book to make me cry in years. Because of this I was excited to read this book.

"Sam's Letters to Jennifer" is a great but predictable book. If you like romantic quick reads than this is the book for you. All of Patterson's books are fast paced and hard to put down. This is no exception...It will have you thinking about your own grandmother and the stories of her life.

Unlike Patterson's Alex Cross thrillers, this sentimental tale does not translate well to audio. The plot twists seem all the more absurd when read aloud, and the audiobook's maudlin music, inserted during the story's poignant moments, is as distracting and disturbing as a TV laugh track. Jennifer, a newspaper columnist who's grieving the death of her husband, has more reason to mourn when her beloved grandmother, Sam, falls into a coma. Jennifer rushes to Sam's home in Lake Geneva, Wis., where she finds a packet of letters addressed to her. The letters detail her grandmother's life story, including an affair she had with a mysterious man. Jennifer takes comfort in the letters, and at the same time, embarks on her own romance with Brendan, an old friend.

I was on page 32 I believe when I started reading this book yesterday at 3pm. At about 11:31pm last night I completed the book. I got teary eyed in spots and laughed many times throughout the book. I felt like I was right there with Jennifer and the other people in the book. I was there in the Lake swimming with them. I felt like I was part of this book. The book touched me! So much of this book hit home with me. It either was some how related or close to it. I could feel others pain and others love! What an inspiration and love story and a story of hope all rolled into one! I highly recommend this book. Read it from cover to cover in one sitting and you will NOT be disappointed!

I couldn't get through this book. I know Patterson is supposed to be a best-selling author, but the writing isn't that great and I thought the story was rather trite and too sweet.

A very touching and powerful story about love and second chances. Sam's letters to Jennifer discloses some deep secrets and by example encourages Jennifer to give love and life a second chance. Furthermore, it captures the enduring bond between grandmother and granddaughter. It's a quick read but it evokes sentimentality that will pull at the strings of your heart. This tearjerker story shows that the only predictable thing about life is that it's never predictable, and that one should never truly give up hope.

A very surprising book from James Patterson. I listened to this on CD and it was WONDERFUL. I think I like Patterson's love stories better than his crime stories.
