Book Description:
Arguably the greatest horror novel ever written by the greatest horror novelist, this is a true Modern Classic that was first published in 1978, and then re-published in 1990, complete and unabridged, with 150,000 words cut from the first edition restored, and now accompanied by unusual and imaginative line art. The total copies for both editions, in hardcover and paperback, exceeds 4 million worldwide.

The Stand is a truly terrifying reading experience, and became a four-part mini-series that memorably brought to life the cast of characters and layers of story from the novel. It is an apocalyptic vision of the world, when a deadly virus runs amok around the globe. But that lethal virus is almost benign compared to the satanic force gathering minions from those still alive to destroy humanity and create a world populated by evil.

Stephen King is a brilliant storyteller who has the uncanny gift of putting ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, giving readers an experience that chills and thrills on every page.

This is my absolute favorite book of all time. It draws you in and makes you think of what would happen? I love how he develops the characters and felt as though I really know them. I have read this several times and will read it many more times. Definitely my favorite out of all the King novels I have read. Not for the faint of heart, but a really good, well-developed story line.

complete and uncut, 1141 pages

This is not my favorite of King's works, but still good; the first part of the book, the actual spread of Captain Tripps (the apocalyptic flu) was fascinating and, I felt, the most interesting part of the book. Good post-apocalyptic story on a large scale at first, then whittling down to the few important characters we will follow on their journey.

This is the definition of a masterpiece. The characters are deep, diverse, and well managed. You really care about these people after getting to know them. King really builds them well. The story is really fantastic, well thought out, and delivered expertly. I think, though, what I loved most about this story is that "God" was personified as an old black woman and "Satan" is a white guy who wears cowboy boots. Interesting contrast! This book will scare you. It will make you laugh. You will most likely shed a few tears. You will cheer. You will be angry. You will ponder deeply your own beliefs. But most of all, you will love it, every single page, period. I loved this book and would recommend it to any avid reader.

Imagine that a plague is sweeping through America. Now imagine that as a survivor, you may have been better of dead.

One man escapes from a biological weapon facility after an accident, carrying with him the deadly virus known as Captain Tripps, a rapidly mutating flu that - in the ensuing weeks - wipes out most of the world's population. In the aftermath, survivors choose between following an elderly black woman to Boulder or the dark man, Randall Flagg, who has set up his command post in Las Vegas. The two factions prepare for a confrontation between the forces of good and evil.

One of my all-time favorites! A page-turner full of suspense, despair, futile agony, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil!

Totally exciting...never expect Steven Kings movies to reflect the books because they can't compare! This is a very thick book that will take some through the fall and into the winter with it hard to put it down...sleep? Who needs it!!!

King was writing way over his head when he wrote this book. He will probably never write a better one. This is the kind of book that stays in your memory for years.

I really enjoyed this book. It\'s one of Stephen King\'s best, in my opinion. An epic saga of people left alive after a plauge wipes out the vast majority of the population. Definitely worth reading.
