I love this book and all of Selma Eichler's books with the female sleuth Desiree Shapiro. This mystery is a fun read with a not so obvious ending.

Desiree is a highly unlikely private detective. Based in New York and her niece Ellen play a big part in her series. Very enjoyable reading.

Desiree is hired by a distraught grandmother who is convinced that her granddaughter has been murdered. Everyone in her family thinks the granddaughter, who had serious lung problems and asthma, died a natural death and resents that Mrs. Corwin is spending her money this way. Although Desiree gets cooperation from the family members, with the exception of the horrid Todd (a 12 year old from Hades), she can't convince herself that the granddaughter simply succumbed to her illnesses. One clue that she almost misses changes her mind but proving it will be the real challenge.

I enjoyed the book as I have enjoyed all her others. I love having a "queen-size" sleuth, a bit older, although not my age, who is so real, down to earth and one I can identify with. She doesn't know karate, she has hair that won't behave, has terrible luck with men and, well, she is just a normal human being.
