Book Description:
In the Old South of the 1930s, a gentle giant of a man is sentenced to death for the murder and rape of two little girls. The fact that he is black and the girls are white is inflammatory enough, but the situation is further complicated by his near muteness and gift for healing. This novel is being published serially in six installments: THE TWO DEAD GIRLS, THE MOUSE ON THE MILE, COFFEY'S HANDS, THE BAD DEATH OF EDUARD DELACROIX, NIGHT JOURNEY, and COFFEY ON THE MILES.

Green Mile tells the story of two men, a prison guard and his new death row inmate, and their suddenly intertwined lives. What would it be like to walk those last 40 yards to the electric chair, knowing you were going to die there? What would it be like to be the man who had to strap the condemned man in or pull the switch? What would such a job take out of you, or even add? The Green Mile takes readers deep inside this world, and into the psyches of two men at the pivotal points in their lives. It's funny where an idea, a chance remark, can lead you. Friendly conversation about books will almost certainly lead you to Charles Dickens, and how his novels were once serialized, with readers eagerly awaiting the publication of the next installment. With few exceptions, this was a concept not attempted since the Dickens era.

I'm not a King fan, but this series was great! The Green Mile represents the last walk taken by condemned prisoners. Is John Coffey a vicious murder of children, or a gentle giant wrongfully accused? Set in 1932, this story of murder, mystery and miracles is told from the point of view of a prison guard.

This is the first volume of the story of John Coffey who was caught with two dead children in his arms. He is not an ordinary man. After reading it, I couldn't wait for the next volume.

Sister's are killed in the depression era and the killer does not even understand their brutal deaths. This story is told from the perspective of the death row superintendent as he sits in a nursing home.

I've always loved Stephen King's stories, but also had a difficult time getting thru his books because of the detail he always puts in them...so I usually wait for the movie versions, which I did in this case too. So far, the story is following the movie to a tee and hasn't dragged or become bogged down by details. I'm impressed.

The beginning of the story where John Coffey gains insight into his life in prison. Very good book

They were sisters, and the picture-perfect image of innocence. No one understood their brutal deaths, not even the man who killed them.
