This was an OK book, if you follow the Alan Gregory series; It didn't really keep my interest, tho.

Critical Conditions is the 5th book in the Dr. Alan Gregory series. It started off really good. His patient, Merritt, is a 15 yo girl suspected of murder. However, she is remaining silent and Alan and his detective friend are trying to find out what happened without her help. The book started going downhill when she started speaking again to tell Alan the truth to what happened. It just seemed a little far-fetched.

I like the style of Shephen White's writing and I really like his character in this book, Dr. Alan Gregory. Although he's a psychologist, he spends a lot of his time investigating murders...and he's pretty darn good at it!! This makes about 4 or 5 books that I've read about Dr. Alan Gregory and they are all excellent books.
When Dr Alan Gregory is called to ICU on an emergency,he finds himself in the heart of a medical tragedy.Fifteen-year -old Merritt Strait lies clinging to life after a suicide attempt. She is the stepsister of Chaney Strait a little girl with a heart condition who's making headlines because her managed-care provider has turned down the experimental treatment that could save her life. This turn of events lands Dr Gregory in the midddle of a case of murder and how far you will go to save the one you love against all odds.

When Dr. Alan Gregory is called to the ICU on an emergency, he finds himself in the heart of a medical tragedy. Fifteen year old Merritt Strait lies clinging to life after a suicide attempt. She is the stepsister of Chaney Strait, a little girl with a fatal heart condition, who's making headlines because her managed care provider has turned down the experimental treatment that could save her life. The case takes a deadly turn as a wealthy exec of the family's HMO is found dead - and evidence links Merritt. One book in a series of thirteen. Great mystery series.

"A Superior Psychological Thriller" (Chicago Tribune)
Good, fast-paced medical thriller. I had a hard time putting this book down. Definately a good read.
Another action packed Dr. Alan Gregory adventure. This one didn't let up for a second. Maybe one of the best in the series. If you're a fan of Stephen White, you won't be disappointed. If you're a fan of Jonathan Kellerman and you haven't discovered White yet, what are you waiting for?
