Mark is on the trail of a serial killer. A dead body is found in a mermaid's costume. She had a memory card inside her with a newspaper article from 40 years ago; the first murder that Mark worked on. But did he find the right killer? Much of this book takes place in 1962, hence the title, The Past Tense.

I loved this series when it was on TV and love the books as well. This one goes back in time to things that happen during the 1960s, which made it particularly interesting to me.
