Book Description:
Angela is a college freshman who has found herself in the center of a growing racial tension on campus; Henry is a park ranger who has nightly visits from two very mysterious (and dangerous) young women; Jolene is a mother starting a new life with her son, but who finds instead a mysterious mansion with disturbing secrets; Dennis is a young man who sets out to travel cross-country, but instead finds himself haunted by a horrifying tourist-trap. These four individuals are from different regions of the country, from different ethical/religious backgrounds...but they all have one thing in common: their lives are about to become a living hell.

This is not the best Ive read from him. I was a bit dissapointed in this one. I am generally a Bently Little Fan and I guess that if I had never read one of his books this would have been great but I have read his books and I know he has done better. The story is told in an omnipresent POV following the lives of 4 main characters. The format was odd because he jumps from one characters story to the next in what are seemingly unrelated stories. There are not many (if any) connections to all of the characters until about 3/4 through the book when it all starts to make sense. This was a good story though and I enjoyed it when I learned to not pay so much attention to the format. I learned a new word from this book as well haberdasher noun A merchant who sells men's clothing. All in all its a decent story but not something I would tell every person I know to read it. It gets a 4 out of 5

A good book, but in my opinion not as good as Little's books usually are. Still, I would recommend it.

Well written, the characters, while they didn't all interact, came together well. It was a little shallow in some areas, but not enough to bore you to tears.

This wasn't Little's best work. It was strange and interesting, but not a must-read.

The back of the book doesn't go in depth on the story line, it is one of those "Bad summary, AWESOME book!" scenarios. I love the story, it is a supernatural thriller...and I DO mean thriller...I would read Stephen King until Midnight but not this one...

Another excellent Bentley Little. If you don't know his works?GET ON IT!!You needn't miss another second, just check out this book..A very uniques plot line keeps you reading on...not as gory as many of his books, it does give new light to a part of USA history that few know (or care) about..

The Burning was a pretty quick read for me. I didn't ejoy it as much as Bentley Little's other book "The Store".

Bentley Little is a master of macabre horror! However, this story was like another he's written. I'm hoping that not all of his writings fall under this particular formula: Seemingly random people have the same horror experiences in difference places. One giant force/monster/spirit culmulates and brings everyone together. Huge finale, lots of blood and gore, then... peace and calm. The Burning takes place around the building of the transcontinental railroad and racism.
