Martha Grimes is a fantastic mystery writer. This is from the Richard Jury series with an eccentric cast of characters with an English pub connection,

Supt. Jury #8, in which Jury and Plant again hook up with Devon Chief Constable Brian Macalvie when a killing in London matches one committed in Devon a few months previously. Same killer? Or just coincidence? And who’s next in line to be strangled with a scarf? Enjoyable visit with the crew as usual.

A typical British mystery novel in the Richard Jury series by Martha Grimes.

Good overall, although tedious at times.

They were two young women, strikingly similar in life... strikingly similar in death. Both were strangled with their own scarves one in Devon, onw outside a fashionable Mayfair pub called I am the only running footman. Richard Jury teams up with Devon's irascible local divisional commander, Brian Macalvie, to solve the murders. With nothing to tie the women together but the fatal scarves, Jury pursues his only suspect and a trail of tragedy that just might lead to yet another victim and her killer.

I love Martha Grimes' books. I discovered her recently, and have read nearly all of them already!

Quirky characters help Scotland Yard's Superintendent Richard Jury solve murders (and entertain along the way).
From the bookcover: "They were two young women, strikingly similar in life ... strikingly similar in death. Both were strangled with their own scarves - one in Devon, one outside a fashionable Mayfair pub called I Am the Only Running Footman. Richard Jury teams up with Devon's irascible local divisional commander, Brian Macalvie, to solve the murders.
