Book Description:

Hear this history-making serial novel -- from cliffhanger to cliffhanger -- in its entirety.

When it first appeared, one volume per month, Stephen King's The Green Mile was an unprecedented publishing triumph: all six volumes ended up on the New York Times bestseller list -- simultaneously -- and delighted millions of fans the world over.

Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk the Green Mile, keeping a date with "Old Sparky," Cold Mountain's electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working the Mile. But he's never seen anyone like John Coffey, a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. In this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about Coffey, a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs...and yours.

It has been many years since I have read a Stephen King novel. This is one of his best. I have seen the movie starring Tom Hanks many times and the book was perfect for filling in all the little holes. It really allows you to get to know the personalities of the characters, something a two hour movie has difficulty conveying. I highly recommend this book, even to those that have seen the movie as many times as I had before I finally read the book.

This book is incredible. It is a journey where you will need a lot of kleenex and will felt spent when it is over.

It is impossible to not feel some sort of emotion for most of the characters in this book. You will love them, or hate them, or relate to them, or feel sorry for them.

I am so glad the follow up events, a sequel if you will, were added at the end. It brought closure.

The best Stephen King book I've ever read. It is even better than the movie if you can believe it. You won't want to put it down once you start.

Stephen King at his best makes a terrific book that noone should miss. You feel you're are inside the characters. Death row is seen in it's terrifying reality. John Coffee can cure from the mouse Mr. Jingles to the warden's wife dying from cancer. There is nasty Percy. Will he get his comeupance? The movie makes you visualize the characters, but King's prose makes the come alive. Is Coffe innocent? Will he get pardoned? This is one terrific book!!

I originally read this story when it first came out in the six part series. I loved it then and I love it now. The book is so entertaining and keeps you wanting more. It seems that you know the characters and start feeling something for each of them. Yes, including the mouse. What a wonderful, entertaining story.

I found this to be one of King's better stories. Has wonderful characters and great plot. Despite its length, the reading went fast.
