Book Description:
The runaway bestseller that has generated a major movie deal—and an international dialogue—with over 170,000 copies sold in hardcover and seven weeks on the New York Times list

"Economic hit men," John Perkins writes," are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as Empire but one that has taken on terrifying dimensions during this time of globalization."

John Perkins should know—he was an economic hit man for an international consulting firm that worked to convince developing countries to accept enormous loans and to funnel that money to U.S.corporations. Once these countries were saddled with huge debts, the American government and international aid agencies were able to request their "pound of flesh" in favors, including access to natural resources, military cooperation, and political support.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is the story of one man’s experiences inside the intrigue, greed, corruption and little-known government and corporate activities that America has been involved in since World War II, and which have dire consequences for the future of democracy and the world.

The casual connections between our political leaders and the corporations are confirmed. Profit and power are all that matter. Now I understand why banks loan money to less developed countries, money that they can never repay. Their economies are destroyed, their lands polluted and more and more people become destitute. The USA forces concessions from their leaders. Leaders that won't fall in line somehow don't live long.

The author seems somewhat hypocritical. He admits that himself as he has become very well off from his activities as an economic hit man but every American should read this book. It is devastating to read to what is done in the name of "helping" other countries. Read this book and learn why other countries hate the USA.

It is particularly chilling seeing the backlash as America is reaping what they have sown.

A fascinating true story of the corrupt governmental and corporate activities in which the United States has participated over the past 50 years. This book opened my eyes to a political underworld that is both exciting and terrifying.

This is a most interesting book that EVERY AMERICAN should read. It is very fascinating and it could be an explanation for why September 11th happened.

John Perkins wrote two books and both them are shockingly true. I came from a third world country. I have seen that how aid is not working there. Most of the aid gets looted by the ruling society. Even thought we have democracy there..the courruption is out of this world. After reading this book now I understand why WB, IMF, ADB doesn't care what happens with their money.

Please read both of his book and then recommend it to anyone who thinks foreign aid is working. Charity doesn't work..creating value in business and goverment does!

For anyone not familiar with American Foreign Policy and the ability of the suits to build an Empire, this is the book for you.

This is a hard book to read because the truths it tells are so ugly. It confirms things that I have suspected about behind-the-scenes treachery at the highest levels, and it is true.

A good read but not as revealing as the title sounds. I was hoping for some juicy conspiracy theory inside information, but what he presents is not much more than an academic viewpoint with some extra hype thrown in for excitement.
