Book Description:
The stranger silently summoned her across the continents, across the seas. He whispered of eternal torment, of endless hunger... of dark, dangerous desires. And somehow American surgeon Shea O'Halloran could feel his anguish, sense his haunting aloneness, and she ached to heal him, to heal herself.

Drawn to the far Carpathian mountains, Shea found a ravaged, raging man, a being like no other. And her soul trembled. For in his burning eyes, his icy heart, she recognized the beloved stranger who'd already become part of her. The imperious Carpathian male had compelled Shea to his side. But was she to be his healer... or his prey? His victim... or his mate? Was he luring her into madness... or would his dark desire make her whole?

I'm fairly certain that this woman is the worst writer in her genre...how do these people get published? I tell you, it gives an aspiring writer hope - if SHE can do it...

Ridiculously overdone and insipid dialogue (here's an actual sample), "...Hear Me! Join With Me! Save Me Now! ...You must join with me to save me from this monster tearing insanely at my flesh!" And, even more horrifying, "Laughing, coughing, they broke apart and swam to the surface, the horrors of the day drowned in the depth of their love."

Oh. My. God. Save yourselves! This is actually the second book I've tried by this author (an EVIL friend kept telling me they were great) and it just gets worse and worse...yet, strangely, people still buy her books. Better you than me!

This is the second book in the Dark series and I have read three. The Dark Prince, Dark Descent, and Dark Desire. I really do like the style that Christine writes in. I find it full of passion. This one is a good read and an important one in the series. I did however, like the other two a little better as I couldn't put them down. Still a big thumbs up for Dark Desire! Feehan has great talent in her creativity and style.

A friend of my daughter tried to get me to read various books by Feehan a few years back. I could never get into them at all. Then you gave me Dark Desire to read. It completely floored me. The brink of insanity of the main character caught me in the writer's web. This was the one book that finally got me reading Feehan's books. I love it. I highly recommend it to anyone to read who enjoys this genre.

I didn't like it as much as Dark Prince, or Dark Gold. But it was an ok read.

love the carpathians

The book is about an American doctor named Shea who is half Carpathian (which is an immortal almost)and does not know it. She believes she has a some kind of a rare blood disease. One night she has a dream about a man being killed and made to suffer and actually feels the pain he is in. She passes it off as a dream until one day two men show up trying to kill her like the man they tortured in her dream. They claim she is a vampire so she escapes and travels to the Carpathian mountains. That is where her father is from and she thinks that her father had the rare blood disease also. She finds the tortured man from her dreams in a cellar and saves him from his prison. It goes on to tell of their struggles between the man's sanity and her accepting what is in her blood. They are soul mates and their love conquers all.
This book was definitely better than the first in the series. The writing style is easier to read and the plot is great. I am glad I kept reading the series after the first book.

Let's face it, Christine Feehan is the queen of paranormal romance. I love everything she writes. That being said, this book is not among my favorites in the Carpathian series as it is a bit too dark and I found it hard to empathize with Jacques. However, it IS important to the series and the series is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD as a whole. My recommendation to all new Carpathian readers is to read them in the correct order & be sure to read the next several books in the series... even if you are not in love with this one. I would also suggest her other series to you... Drake Sisters & Ghost Walkers-completely different but phenomenal reads.
