This was not a great book. I read it to get to the rest of the series. Since I actually read out of order I know that the series gets better. Also the series is written by different authors, I wont be reading more from this author. It gets a 2 out of 5.

A nice, solid start to the series. The exposition occasionally felt forced, and the plot has been done before. But, really, it's difficult to find a unique twist on the vampire-mortal thing at this point. The series as a whole varies in quality, with this one landing solidly in the middle. If you like the supernatural genre and are interested in this series, give it a try before you read one of the later, more "different" books.

A good, moderately fast read. I was previously unfamiliar with this author, but I would read more by her now.

Besides being a good stand-alone story, this book is an intro. to the world of Crimson City, created by Liz Maverick. Several other authors were then invited to create stories set in this world. I suggest you start here and read them all, though each one will stand on it's own. There is even an anthology of short stories. If you like this one search Romance for "Crimson" to find more.

This book is an okay paranormal. It starts out a multi-author series that covers 5 different species. This is about vampire Fleur Dumont and her human friend. It's a good place to start paranormals.

This is a fun book set in a futuristic Los Angeles where a vampire/ human/werewolf caste system has evolved. Vampires are the wealthy, the humans are the middle class, and the werewolves are the lower classes. The main story involves a young vampire girl who is coming into her place in the clan and her fascination with a certain human male. I look forward to the next book in this series.

This is the beginning of a vamp series written by different authors. The first installment was an OK read, but the vamp girl seemed to wimpy to me. But it did hold my attention enough that I wanted to see what happens in the next book.

In a Los Angeles of the future, in the aftermath of a war between human, vampire and werewolf species that gave the city it's new name, Crimson City, Dain and his fellow B-Ops members work to keep a fragile peace. But the shit is going to hit the fan when a rogue Mech (cyborg) assasinates the vampire leaders and leaves a power vacuum that the inexperienced Fleur struggles to fill, while trying to deal with a forbidden love that's blossoming between her and Dain. Can the two keep Crimson City from being drowned in blood again? And what will happen to their doomed, star-crossed love?

*** It's nice to see a vampire/human romance with the vampire being female for a change, and that both characters are struggling with real problems instead of fake, angsty BS - Fleur is still paying for turning a human for love's sake, despite the fact that it's against vampire law; and Dain has no memories of his beloved wife who was murdered by vampires, and now he's falling in love with a woman who's of the same species that destroyed his life. My only problem was that there didn't really seem to be much chemistry between them - I agree with another reviewer about being more interested in Marius and Jill's story. Still, it's competently written and the story about an impending war between the species is tense and exciting.

Conclusion: Recommended, but more for the suspense than a romance.

I really liked this book, I was between books in the series' I read and was happy to find a new refreshing in spin on vampires. I cant wait to read the next one.

This story reminds me of a "Twilight" meets "Underworld" type story. It has a species-crossed love story along with a lot of action with a who-done-it mystery.

Interesting read, fast paced and good character development. The plot seems to be a bit disjointed and missing some details that would give the story more flow.

Good first in a series and an interesting series idea.

Terrible, awful book, I was very disappointed! The plot - was there a plot? The characters were all over the place and there was a lot of pronoun confusion, incredibly annoying. I love vampire tales and I am continuing with this series only because I hear it gets better. I can't say that I am eager for more Liz Maverick. Perhaps I am being too harsh, but this book was dull. I've read better.
