Judge Armanda "the Coconut" Acosta is arrested on charges of soliciting a prostitute in a sting operation for "johns," and few -- including attorney Paul Madriani, who has a long history of enmity with the judge -- are sympathetic. When the young female decoy who snared the judge is found brutally murdered, Acosta is the prime suspect.
Abandoned by his friends, Acosta asks Paul to save his career from impending doom. Paul is reluctant, but when Acosta's original defense lawyer is forced off the case by a zealous district attorney looking for revenge, Paul steps forward to defend the judge. With his client now charged with murder, Paul faces the most daunting, disturbing, and complex case of his career.
Packed with nonstop drama and a cast of richly drawn characters that have come to be Steve Martini's trademark, The Judge delivers a decisive thumbs-up verdict.

Good characters, tense and complex plot, a resolution that "played fair" and tied up all the loose ends in some surprising ways. I definitely want to read the rest of this author's books featuring California lawyer Paul Madriani!

A judge is accused of soliciting a prostitute and he says he is being set up. Later the prostitute turns up dead. The judge asks Madriani to represent him. He doesn't want to but does. Is the judge being framed? Very good book

Steve Martini's explosive new thriller finds attorney Paul Madriani the unlikely defense lawyer for an old nemesis. Judge Armando "the Coconut" Acosta is arrested on charges of soliciting prostitution in a sting operation for "johns," and few, including Paul Madriani, who has a long history of enmity with the judge, are sympathetic. Abandoned by his friends on the Capital County bench, Acosta is forced, in an ironic twist, to ask Paul to save his career from impending doom. Paul initially rejects Acosta's pleas, but when Acosta's original defense lawyer is forced off the case by a zealous district attorney looking for revenge, Paul is required to step forward and defend the judge.
