Book Description:
Byron, a Carpathian male and hunter of the vampire follows the sound of compelling music to Italy. There he discovers his lifemate, Antoinetta Scarletti, heiress to the great Scarletti fortune. A renowned concert pianist, Antoinetta is the glue that holds the Scarletti family together. Blinded in an explosion that killed her parents, she nevertheless stands to run the family shipping business.

Antoinetta lives in the palazzo della morte, the palace of death. There, like her ancestors, she finds someone wants her dead. Antoinetta has a few secrets of her own and together, Byron and Antoinetta face the killers and one out of control Carpathian youth.

Finally, Feehan has written a Carpathian book whose heroine is moderately full-figured and who is beyond the age of 23. Antonietta is a 37 world reknowed blind concert pianist who lives in an old family castle with an assortment of relatives. Her lifemate is Byron who is drawn to her music, spending many nights with her while she plays for him. Unlike the other Carpathaian novels, he is not a hunter but a master jeweler, able to create exquisite jewelry out of gems, gold and silver. The story is well plotted with all the family characters' interactions as well as a mystery as to who was trying to kill off members of the family. Antoinetta is a refreshing character. Byron is like many of the other Carpathian males except he doesn't hunt. Well worth reading!

This was one of my favorite in the series. The story is sweet and compelling; the heroine is strong and unique. I loved this one, read it twice. I love the whole series, but this one is definitely tops!

Great book! I loved Byron when we first met him and was anxious to read his story and I wasn't disappointed. Intricate plot, lots of characters, but a great read.

In the continuing saga of the world of the Carpathians, Byron Justicano has found his lifemate: Antonietta Scarletti. Antonietta was blinded in a terrible accident when she was five, the same accident that killed both of her parents. In spite of her blindness, she is a famous musician. Byron is drawn to her music. Unfortunately, someone is trying to kill Antonietta and members of her family. It is up to Byron and Antonietta to unravel the mystery. As this series continues, I like to see characters from previous books enter into the story line. It enhances the view of the world of the Carpathians. You definitely want to read these books in order!

He was Carpathian, a species as old as time. He could shift shape and soar high, run with the wolves, yet without light to his darkness, he could so easily give in to the whispers of temptation, the call for power and turn wholly evil-to become the undead, as many of his kind had chosen to do. He traveled the world, hunting the vampire, seeking to maintain a balance of life in a world of bleak loneliness. And then he heard the music.
Blinded and scarred in a terrible accident, Antonietta Scarletti made music that thrilled the world with its beauty and passion. Descended from a long line of psychics she has learned to rely on her other senses to "see" the world around her, but nothing could have prepared her for Byron.

I did like the book, though the characters were not as "deep" as some of her others.

After having read 6 of the "Dark" series, this is the one I like best so far. Very good, detailed story that has an interesting sub-plot. If you like Feehan, you will love this book.

I've read all of the previous "Dark" series and I love the human element and touch of mystery in this one.
