New Eden, Montana, is a piece of heaven on earth where one woman died in her own private hell. Now it's up to ex-court reporter Marilee Jennings to decipher the puzzle of her best friend's death. But someone has a stake in silencing her suspicion. Someone with secrets worth killing for--and the power to turn this beautiful haven into a...Dark Paradise. And as Mari digs deeper beneath New Eden's picture-perfect exterior, finding the truth is suddenly no longer a matter of justice. It's her only hope of staying alive.

Mari Beth leaves her job as a court reporter and her latest failed love affair, jumps in the car, and goes, unannounced, to New Eden, MT, to join her best pal for a few weeks of R&R. When she arrives, she finds the house trashed, her friend dead, and the natives less than friendly. Something about her friend's death is not right, and Mari keeps probing for information. She gets bopped, bashed, and generally mistreated by everyone in New Eden, and this makes her more suspicious. In discovering what really happened to her friend, she also uncovers the deepest secrets of a most unsavory bunch of immoral and unlawful interlopers from Hollywood. Hoag's book is a true romance novel, complete with foolhardy feats of daring, passions simmering just below the surface, and rescue from the brink of death by the strong, handsome hero. Although it is well read by Joyce Bean, the story is less than compelling.

A great mystery with lots of twists and turn, and some romance thrown into boot. One of Tami's best, I think.

Good use of the Montana background and the conflict between the come-heres and the been-heres, but a little too romance-y and slick for my taste. Hoag's heroines tend to be tougher and more complex than this one, and her resolutions are usually more open-ended.

A good thriller which takes place in Montana...almost like an oxymoron. Marilee comes to visit her friend in Montana to start her life over and finds her friend Luce has been shot to death "accidently." Things continue to happen: three more murders, love, Vietnam vet with flashbacks to the war, big time illegal hunting. Every page makes you want to read faster.

A murder mystery set in Montana. The usual cast of handsome cowboys, mysterious business owners and colorful western characters. What makes this a bit different is the story line. NOT the typical who done it. This best selling author has a good sense of humor. She will have you rolling on the floor laughing and then have goose bumps crawling up your back on the next page. A must read!

Dark Paradise is primarily a romance with elements of suspense and a mystery at the heart of it.

Tami Hoag is now seen as a suspense writer along the lines of Sidney Sheldon. But before she wrote romantic suspense/thrillers. This is one of the best.
