Deborah and Simon St. James have taken a holiday in the winter landscape of Lancastershire, hoping to heal the growing rift in their marriage. But in the
barren countryside awaits bleak news: The vicar of Wimslough, the man they had come to see, is dead--a victim of accidental poisoning. Unsatisfied with the
inquest ruling and unsettled by the close association between the investigating constable and the woman who served the deadly meal, Simon calls in his old friend Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley. Together they uncover dark, complex relationships in this rural village, relationships that bring men and women
together with a passion, with grief, or with the intention to kill. Peeling away layer after layer of personal history to reveal the torment of a fugitive spirit, Missing Joseph is award-winning author Elizabeth George's greatest achievement.

Elizabeth George is bar none, the best mystery writer. This is an Inspector Lynley,Simon St. James murder about a cleric, a mysterious woman who moves every two years, and the confusion of teenagers. Her narratives, characters, and settings are so well written other mysteries pale in comparison.

Although I have not read this book, as it is not my type. I found it in my collection of paperbacks. I believe it was left behind by a visiting aunt. Perhaps if I am finished with other books I'm currently interested in. I will eventually read this little gem. Until then it is available for anyone who would like to read it.

Elizabeth George is a fantastic writer. This is the 5th book in her "Inspector Lindley" series, but Deborah and Simon St James take the lead in this outing. George's books are very thorough, detailed, and involving. It might be best if you read them in order. She is wonderful and weaving many stories seamlessly together.

Another great Elizabeth George. This one focuses on Deborah and Simon St. James, who take a holiday, only to encounter murder which requires that their friend, Chief Inspector Thomas Lynley, be called in.
