I'm going to review the first four books of this series as a "set" since they contain a world story arc that carries through them and most readers will prefer to have all four on hand before starting the series. This is the first book in the Riley Jenson Guardian series, which are paranormal romances set in Melbourne, Australia. Arthur does an excellent job of balancing the paranormal and the romance elements of the story and, while the moon cycle sexual responses of the werewolves echo a bit of LKH's "ardeur", Arthur pulls it off much more smoothly. The paranormal elements are well thought out with a few nice twists to standard mythos. Characters are well drawn, though a bit unbelievably perfect at times. Each book does have a standalone plot with a satisfying conclusion, but as I mentioned, there is a "world arc" that carries through all four books.

This was a good mix of paranormal mystery and romance. At times I worried that Riley's urges would hinder her, but she was able to use them to her advantage or resist them when she needed to. I also liked many of the characters, specifically Riley, Quinn, Rhoan, Jack and Liander. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Kissing Sin.

When I first started this book I was wondering if it was going to be worth my while. It started out with a government agency that worked with non-humans. The book I read right before was "White Witch Black Curse" and it also had that element. It was a smooth and easy read though and the back story of twin wolves born into a pack that kicked them out for being half breeds caught my interest. Soon after something else caught my interest and had me blushing in the night in my bed with my little book like hoping my husband would not wake up to see my dirty delight. It was sexual to say the least and fed my dark desires very well. Though it had a great deal to do with sex, that alone did not carry the book. The plot was interesting and twisted just right and though in the end it left me wanting, but satisfied. The book at the end told of the next 3 in this series and so I have hope that more dirty nights to come. The con I have for this book is that it did not give much information about the world and how the un-humans came out of the closet or when. It was futuristic and did not give a good time line. I hope the other books fill it in more. In the end I have found a new writer to love and that is not easy!

This action packed series is a must read for any Anita Blake fans out there. Riley Jenson is bringing her own edge to the world of vampire/werewolves.

Between Riley and her twin brother (Rhoan)there seems to be some kind of "scary-type" danger around every corner. How they manage to get out of all this trouble can be scary or humerous. She resists her boss' invitation to become a full-time warrior, yet does the work anyway.
The characters in this book feel like friends after reading and one doesn't quite want to let them go...until the next book!
