Book Description:
An ordinary man is pushed to his very limits to save the woman he loves in this novel from the master of suspense, Dean Koontz. Someone kidnaps Mitchell Rafferty's wife, Holly, and threatens to kill her within the next 72 hours unless Mitch produces a ransom of two million dollars--an amount far beyond the landscaper's ability to pay. Worse still, Mitch can't tell the police about Holly's disappearance, because the kidnapper is not only watching Mitch's every move, but is prepared to take drastic measures to ensure his silence.

This was just an okay read. For me it was too wordy, and things moved at such a frantic pace it's like Koontz never took a breath while writing it. It started out great, and with a plot twist in the beginning that wasn't expected, but the book itself didn't leave me holding my breath like he usually does. It was so frantic at times I was lost and I just didn't connect with the hero at all. Still, worth reading, just not my favorite of DK's books.

I thought it was pretty good. Not as good as say Whispers or The Bad Place, but still a good read. Fast paced & a decent plot.

Got to page 33 and then could not finish. I have not read Dean Koontz in a while, and now I now why. I felt almost like I was reading a parody of a kidnapping/ransom book because it was so predictable and dramatic. I also want to care about the characters, and I normally do by page 33, but in this one, I couldn't care less what happened next.

This book freaked me out! The wife is kidnapped and the kidnappers expect some regular dude to get a million bucks in ransom!

This book was an entertaining thriller which kept me guessing throughout. I liked how the narration switched between Mitch and his wife Holly as they both tried to outwit the kidnappers.

Not typical Dean Koontz but I had to keep reading to find out what happened. Draws you in right away and reads very quickly, which is good!

It hooked me from the start and couldn't stop. I read it in two days which is rare for me. Great plot twists and turns. Would give it a five except for another ho-hum ending for Koontz.

It was okay. I was intrigued at the beginning, but bored by about the middle. Overall it was just okay.

Kind of a letdown. Not horrible but not really good either. Just kind of so-so. It was VERY wordy...even for Koontz. I was really hoping for another home run like Velocity.

Alittle hard to read but it worked out in the middle.

I listened to this on audio today and it was such a disappointment. No humor, no golden retriever's and a bland leading man who finds himself in an unthinkable situation when his wife is kidnapped & held for a ransom he can't possibly meet (he's a gardener). Chaos ensues, secrets are revealed and all ends relatively well. It had its moments of suspense but overall was a pretty blah Koontz novel. Not horrid but nothing I'd be interested in reading again.

This is an easy read. I enjoyed the story and consider it to be a page turner.

I'm so confused. I have been a Dean Koontz fan for years, ever since I first found Strangers in my high-school library. There had NEVER been a book that I didn't like, until the release of VELOCITY. I actually, almost, nearly, dare I say it?--hated that book. Then along comes THE HUSBAND, and I wanted so badly to love it like I loved previous books like WATCHERS, ODD THOMAS, and PRODIGAL SON. Alas, it was not to be.

The premise of thrusting an ordinary man (a gardener/landscaper) into unbelievably horrific circumstances was a good one. Unfortunately, I couldn't "like" the characters. Said gardener was bland and boring; his wife (who has been kidnapped) seemed to be little more than an afterthought. The "extra" characters in the book didn't seem to flesh anything out at all. To be honest, I didn't finish the story, although I did flip to the last chapter to see how it ended.

Overall, it was okay, but I long for the days of more supernatural magic that Mr. Koontz's early books brought.

Koontz is great! Gretchen is enticing and evil, the kind of woman every man wants in his dreams! :-)

Dean Koontz writes another page turner with "The Husband." Block out a day and a half and just enjoy the read.
