my kids loved this book about a man who is commissioned to sail with columbus to keep record of the journey. short and sweet and humorous too.
Good historical book. Gives a more accurate picture of Christopher Columbus.
This book is used in Sonlight Core 3.
Pedro de Salcedo could not have known what adventures lay ahead! His incredible voyage as ship's boy aboard Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria would bring both danger and excitement. Pedro captured his experience between the pages of a journal.
My daughter read this book as part of our homeschool history and loved it. She is 10 and found it to be very interesting and "way more fun" than just reading about the events of Columbus' journey in a textbook.

Kids love it.
This book falls in the realm of historical fiction. It is based upon the writings of two experts on the authentic logs of the Santa Maria; Robert H. Fuson who wrote "The Log of Christopher Columbus" and Samuel Elliot Morison who wrote "Admiral of the Ocean Sea: A Life of Christopher Columbus."
It is written from the viewpoint of Pedro, a ship's boy, hired because he could read and write.
A very worthwhile book.

Christopher Columbus should be remembered as of history's worst villains. Luckily, this book sanitizes the story of his discovery and rape of the New World, which is essential for the well-being of our national pride.
