Book Description:
An addictive, deeply enjoyable thrill ride on the frontier of the feral and feminine...a debut novel of astonishing imaginative power from the future queen of suspense.

Elena Michaels slips out of bed, careful not to wake her boyfriend. He hates it when she disappears in the middle of the night, and can't understand why any normal woman would crave the small hours of the morning, the dark unsafe downtown streets. But Elena's skin is tingling, the pent-up energy feels like it's about to blow her muscles apart — she can't put it off any longer. She loves to run at the edge of the city, but she doesn't have time to get there. She has to slink into an alley, take off her clothes and hide them carefully, and make the Change.

Elena's trying hard to be normal. She hates her strength, and her wildness, and her hunger for food, for sex, for running in the night, for the chase and the kill. She wants a husband, children...even a mother-in-law. Or at least that's what she tells herself.

And then the inevitable happens. The Pack needs her. The Pack she loves and hates is under siege from a bunch of disreputable and ruthless mutts who are threatening to expose them all, breaking all the rules that have kept them safe. The loyalty of her nature calls her home, and into the fight, which tests just who Elena is: the wild woman or the wistful would-be human.

This is the best werewolf book I've ever read. I picked it up on a whim from the library and read it in one day. Then went back and read it again. I loved it so much I had to buy it as soon as I spotted it in my local Borders. It's my favorite book with rich descriptions of the change from human to werewolf and all the senses. If you love the paranormal genre, you must read this book!

I'm a big fan of werewolf stories and this one with it's pack dynamics, the relationship entanglements, the gore . . had me anxiously turning the pages. But, being the honest sort that I am, must say that I didn't particularly like either main character all that much. Elena, the only female werewolf in existance as we're told time and again or Clay, the super alpha wolf with the Chippendales looks. Elena despises Clay (but loves him too) and only wants to live a normal "human" existence. Clay, born and raised a werewolf, can't figure her out. He wants her, she wants him, so what's the problem? Well, for startes, Elena LIVES with another man whom she claims to love yet diddles with Clay when she's in his turf. Elena is so wishy-washy about this it continually annoyed me.

Character flaws aside, I enjoyed this book more than many I've read this year. I'd read more books about these wolves as they're much more engaging (IMO, of course) than the "Magic" books written by the same author.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It reminded me so much of "Blood and Chocolate" except geared more toward adults than high schoolers. I had such a hard time ever setting this book down!

This was an incredible book - I loved every moment of it. It caught my attention right in the beginning with the description of Elena's run. It got even better when Elena went back to the Pack. The tension between her and Clay was absolutely intense. But the descriptions are really what caught my attention. Armstrong seems to really know how it feels to be a wolf - or at least how to describe it so it seems that way!
