Book Description:

Have you ever wanted to rewrite your past?

Three best friends, all with the same birthday, are about to turn forty. Celebrating at a summerhouse in Maine, Leslie Headrick, Madison Appleby, and Ellie Abbott are taking stock of their lives and loves, their wishes and choices. But none of them expect the gift that awaits them at the summerhouse: the chance for each of them to turn their "what-might-have-beens" into reality...

Leslie, a suburban wife and mother, follows the career of a boy who pursued her in college wonders: what if she had chosen differently? Madison dropped a modeling career to help her high school boyfriend recover from an accident, even though he'd jilted her. But what if she had said "no" when her old boyfriend had called? Ellie became a famous novelist, but a bitter divorce wiped out her earnings -- and shattered her belief in herself. Why had the "justice" system failed her? And could she prevent its happening the second time around?

Now, a mysterious "Madame Zoya," offers each of them a chance to relive any three weeks from the past. Will the road not taken prove a better path? Each woman will have to decide for herself as she follows the dream that got away...and each must choose the life that will truly satisfy the heart's deepest longings.

This is a good book for romance-readers and if you like time travel. It makes one think---if you could back and see what could have been had you chosen a different path in life (ie, mate)...well, who knows?!
It really made me think and look back at the "ones who got away" !

very good book about women and their friendships. About close friends and how relationships change and grow over time and that there is always something new to learn about your best friend

Three casual friends with the same birthday meet at a summerhouse to celebrate their 40th birthday and take stock of their lives. The gift of a chance for each of them to relive any three weeks from their past starts a great adventure.

Cute book... a little formulaic. I liked the plot as a concept very much, it just lacked a little originality in the execution. But there's something to be said for the predictable in a romance...

What if a woman could go back to the beginning and rethink her choices for love and life? When Leslie Headrick, Madison Appleby, and Ellie Abbott first met, they were in their early 20s and the world lay before them with its infinite possibilities. Now that they're about to turn 40, they reunite for a weekend at a summerhouse in Maine where they share the details of their lives during the past 20 years. Each woman has serious doubts and questions about the path she chose to follow, but none of them suspect the startling opportunity they're about to be offered to relive those choices and change their futures.

I love all of her books but especially the more recent ones. This book is fairly easy to keep up and keeps the reader interested. I definitely recommend following up with the sequel "Return to Summerhouse".

I don't usually read books of this genre, but I liked the premise of having an opportunity to go back to an earlier time, to redo a past mistake(s). And the author had received many favorable reviews. But the book was a disappointment. The writing was stilted and awkward - her words and sentences were without beauty or grace. Similarly, there was no subtlety in the way she discussed her characters. Everything was spelled out bluntly, as if she doesn't expect her readers to be bright enough to read between the lines. I will not be reading any of her other work.

Enjoyable book. Didn't realize it was about time travel until well into the story so it was a pleasant surprise. Loved it!

Three women, reunited after a brief friendship now 19 years in the past, are offered the chance to go back in time and change their own history.

A change from my usual genre, and having no previous experience with Ms. Deveraux, I chose this book soley from the description. It was thoroughly enjoyable and really made me pause to wonder if I would alter the path my life has taken, if given the chance.

It is a very well written, page turning book that lets you see 3 women grow up and take the chance on themselves that maybe they didn't have the courage to do the first time around. Now, I am off to read "Return to Summerhouse"...

Happy Reading!

If you ever would like to see what happens if you changed your past, read this book. It's a feel good book about friendships and choices. Read this book and then "Return to the Summerhouse".
