Book Description:
New Year's Eve, 1999. After an early morning machine-gun attack by a madman man called the Digger leaves dozens dead in the Washington, D.C. subway, the mayor's office receives a message demanding twenty million dollars by midnight or more innocents will die. With the ransom note as the only evidence, Special Agent Margaret Lukas calls upon retired FBI agent and the nation's premiere document examiner Parker Kincaid, to join the manhunt for the Digger -- or for hundreds, the first moments of the new century will be their last on earth.

A fast-paced serial killer mystery that keeps you guessing until the end!!!

As usual for Deaver, he takes you on a breath-taking ride from the very beginning of the book when the killing first starts, right through the end, where there is a big surprise! He even brought back for a brief (telephone) appearance, our old friend, criminologist Lincoln Rhyme. This one keeps you on edge throughout the whole book. Good one!

New Years Eve 1999 an early morning machine gun attack by the Digger an emotionless robot like madman leaves dozens dead in the washington d c subway system in a message to the mayors office a criminal mastermind demands twenty million dollars by midnight or the capital will again be at the mercy of his accomplice But in route to the money drop the devious extortionist is killed in a freak accident The Digger without orders to desist prepares for his midnight massacre.
I really like Deaver and this one is no exception. He even throws in my favorite Deaver character Lincoln Rhyme.

An emothionless robot like madman "the Digger" is demanding millions from the Mayor of Washington DC, the money drop goes badly. Agent Margaret Lukas and Parker Kincaid must find the killer before midnight to avoid a massacre.
Fantastic read! Couldn't put it down...full of twists. Excellent.

Great fiction about a serial killer named "the Digger".
Donald M. from KENMORE, NY wrote on 1/9/2007...Typical Deaver. A twisted, fun read with lots of interesting forensic-style "science" based on handwriting characteristics. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have read it several times.
The ending of this well-paced but truly deceptive thriller caught me off guard....Full of good characters and dialogue
