Book Description:
Two brothers, Kevin and James Bannon, find themselves aligned on opposite sides during the Civil War, placed so deliberately by their father, a prosperous New Jersey businessman, so that he would be on the winning side regardless of the outcome. The young men's prewar training and their battlefield experiences are absorbingly detailed. Each falls in love with a young woman who further cements their political persuasion, as it were. Predictably, they eventually meet on the battlefield--at Gettysburg. In an interesting historical note, Coyle separates fact from fiction by differentiating between the people and events he drew from Civil War history and the people and events that sprang from his imagination. An intriguing work of historical fiction. -- Booklist

A very good read although it did slow a bit when Coyle was explaining the different character plots and nuances of these characters which is understandable. The book seemed as if it transported you back to the civil war through these two brothers. While all the while I was sitting on the edge of my chair hoping neither would be killed!
