Daine is a wonderful character, especially for someone like me who always wanted to be able to communicate with animals like she can. Add in my horse crazy tendencies to Daine's friend, Cloud the pony, and it's book that can't lose!

I rather enjoyed the Alanna books, so I thought I'd ive these a try. I've read the first three and would like to read the last in the quartet just to see what happens, but they didn't keep me as interested as the Lioness Quartet did. Though they are still quite lovely books.

Daine is definitely may favorite character (so far) in the Tortall books. This story was wonderful. There's lots of laughs, magic and action going on. Daine's ability to speak with animals is just too cool and the animals themselves are great side characters. It's an excellent start to another series in this world created by Pierce.

Very fine book of magic and a bit of romance and a girl learning her skill with animals. If you want Tamora Pierce without the sex scenes, this book and the one after it, Wolf Speaker, are good. After that the character matures to the ripe age of 16 and starts making out with her 30ish teacher, eyew. Yes, they are in love, and yes the writing is well done overall. Just an fyi.

I thoroughly enjoyed this author. So much so, that this one is being added to my "keep" wall. Sorry folks!

Excellent book, I love the author, only posted because I now have multiple copies.

My daughter loved the book and finished it the afternoon it arrived.

The series is enjoyable but not a hard-core fantasy series. However, it is a nice past-time read and I liked it.

First in the Immortals Series.

A good beginning to a fun series.

This book turned me on to all the books that Tamora pierce wrote... i now have all the books from this series and her others.

I really like this series, the author has a way with words, and you feel like you're in the story.
