E. B. White was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and graduated from Cornell University. He was awarded the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for both Charlotte's Wed, a Newbery Honor Book, and Stuart Little in 1970. He is also the author of Trumpet of the Swan, an ALA Notable Children's Book. Mr. White, who has also authored seventeen books of prose and poetry, was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1973.
Garth Williams has illustrated many of the finest books for children, including Bedtime For Frances by Lillian Hoban and the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
