Ruby Torvald had turned Dove House, the scandalous inheritance her father left to her and her sister, into a respectable establishment. Her newest boarder is Pearl Hossfuss, a 22-year-old schoolteacher from Chicago. Hiding scars within and without, Pearl has given up hope that any man would want to marry her. Her father has his own ideas, insisting she marry his clerk, a widower with five children.
So Pearl flees to Dakotah Territory in response to an ad requesting a teacher for the town of Little Missouri. She finds teaching in this rural setting rewarding and interesting -- even more so when she makes the acquaintance of an intriguing young carpenter, Carl Hegland. But just as her future begins to look brighter, news arrives that her father is coming to take her to back to Chicago.

WOMEN OF THE WEST WERE MADE OF GOOD STUFF.PEARL IS A SCHOOL TEACHER FROM CHICAGO WHO JOINS RUBY AT DOVE HOUSE. AND THE ADVENTURE AND THE ROMANCE CONTINUES.GOOD READ, GET ALL 4
Should have read the other books before this one. If you get the chance, try to read them in order, but it was still easy to follow, very simple story line and fun to read. I enjoy the dakotah treasures series.

I liked this book very much.

Her newest boarder is Pearl Hossfuss, a twenty-two year old schoolteacher from Chicago. Hiding scars within and without, Pearl has given up hope that any man would want to marry her. Her father has his own ideas, insisting she marry his clerk, a widower with five children.
This book nearly lived up to its predecessor, Ruby. But it did not quite succeed in holding my attention; Snelling may have spread herself too thin in trying to concentrate on so many characters, not just Ruby, Opal, and "the girls," but also Pearl, the schoolteacher, and a suitor for nearly every woman. Also, four weddings in the last 57 pages of the book felt a bit too convenient. Still, I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the Dakotah Treasures series.
Fabulous book-one of Lauraine Snelling's best series. I can't wait for Amethyst to be listed!
