Book Description:
Set in the North Carolina mountains in the early 1920s, This Rock tells the story of two brothers who are as different as Cain and Abel.

Muir Powell is a shy, innocent, 17-year-old with big dreams and no clue what to do about them. Moody Powell is a few years older and wild. Embittered by the death of his father 15 years earlier, cramped by the narrowness of his mountain world, Moody escapes into moonshine and gambling while Ginny, their mother, watches helplessly.

When Muir decides that his purposes in life is to build a rock church with his own hands, the consequences of his ambition are far-reaching. A community threatens to tear itself apart, people die, and the brothers are forced to confront each other.

Set on the same ground as The Truest Pleasure and Gap Creek, This Rock continues Morgan's powerful, eloquent cycle of novels about Appalachia.

I truly enjoyed this book.

My first surprise was to find out that this book is the follow up to Morgans The Truest Pleasure (another good book, which should be read before this one).

Then later on I notice familiar names that I have read before in one of his books. Come to find out the family that The Truest Please and This Rock tells of are neighbors to the family that you read about in Morgan's Gap Creek!

I really like Morgan's style of writing. Can't wait to read another Morgan book.

From the author of Gap Creek--an international best seller and book award winner. Takes place in the 1920's in the Appalachian Mountain world. An excellent read.

"Transports readers directly to the wild and forgotten mountains of North Carolina and to the secret, hopeful places in a young man's heart". The novel Gap Creek is by the same author.
