Hailed as "one of the best practitioners of romantic suspense" (The Plain Dealer), Patricia MacDonald unfolds a masterful thriller that explores how far a mother will go to save her troubled son.
WAS IT AN ACCIDENT OR WAS IT MURDER?
Years ago, Keely Bennett's world was shattered by her husband's suicide -- witnessed by her young son, Dylan. Determined to go on, Keely has remarried, and now lives a comfortable life with a newborn baby girl. The darkness of the past is all but forgotten -- until the nightmare begins again, and this time the authorities think it's murder. The prime suspect: Dylan, now a brooding, troubled teen.
To clear her son's name, Keely must battle her own worst fears, an indifferent police force, and a D.A. with a vengeful agenda. But someone very close to her is watching her every move. And as her investigation threatens to expose a conspiracy of secrets and lies, Keely steps into the sights of a killer who will stop at nothing to bury the truth forever....

The story starts out with the suicide of the main character's husband. Fast forward, she winds up marrying his best (childhood) friend. They have a baby girl and then tragedy strikes one night. Her son had witnessed his father's suicide, now he is a person of interest in the death of his step father. Weas his death an accident? To make things even more interesting, the prosecuting attorney is the jilted ex fiance of the step father, Keely's husband, and she is not a "happy camper." Does she have an ax to grind or is she just doing her job? There are more twists and turns in this book than a mountain road. Lots of surprises too. If you are looking for a non stop thriller, this book is for you. Murders, suicide, and people with past (childhood) relationships with one of the main characters pop up. There are a lot of surprises in this book. It will have you guessing till the last page.

`Not Guilty' is an up-all-night, adrenaline fueled, thriller that can't be set aside until all the secrets are revealed. Twist after twist you will be held spellbound trying to figure out where the book is going, and just when you think you have it figured out another twist comes in and throws you off track.
Patricia MacDonald has crafted a masterpiece of suspense, very similar to the early works of Joy Fielding, she grabs her reader early on and hurtles them through one of the most enjoyable thrillers I have read in years.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, anyone looking for a suspenseful thriller should run out and buy this for it is that good, it deserves to be bestseller!
