Book Description:
For Naomi Kauffman Yoder, memories of a Pennsylvania Dutch childhood, abandoned roots, lost connections, and shattered dreams have left her with nothing but loneliness and regret. Now wracked with grief, she comes to a momentous decision....

For Ruth Escalante Yoder, daughter-in-law and friend to Naomi, she concludes that leaving Las Vegas is the only option left to her....

So begins their odyssey -- a cross-country quest in Naomi's creaky old Impala as she returns to her family farm in Lancaster County, to the values of a life once spurned.

Although never having seen the East before, Ruth too is looking for a place to call home. Will she find it among the slow, quiet rhythms of Pennsylvania farm country?

Fantastic! I could hardly put this book down. I highly recommend this to anyone. Its not a book you can skim or read in a day. Its full of parables and modern situations that the Biblical Ruth and Naomi found themselves in - you will be riveted, wanting to know what happens next!

A modern updated version of the Biblical story of Ruth. Naomi wants to go back to her Mennonite roots in the Pennsylvania Dutch country. Ruth goes with her and leaves all she knew in Las Vegas. The story is about their road trip together and the journey once they get there.
I enjoyed the story and since I have been to several of the same places, it was doubly interesting.

Good book--not exactly what I expected, but still good. A lot of time was given to the actual road trip home. The part of the book spent in Amish country was definitely the highlight of the story. If you like the story of Ruth in the Bible (which I happen to love) you will probably enjoy this gentle story.

The story line in this book was well thought out and had many twists and turns. I believe anyone who has searched their heart to know what home really means will enjoy this book.

The book was good easy read. What would the book of Ruth from the Bible be like if it took place today. It was a fun read. Naomi has left her childhood roots with her husband and sons and move west. Years later after the death of her husband and sons decides to return to her roots. Her daughter-in-law Ruth travels with her, the trip is full of adventures and the two women dealing with their pasts and hoping the future will be better.
