Book Description:
Will the Faith That Has Brought Her So Far Sustain Her in the Face of Tragedy?

When heartache and loss invade Karen Pierce's carefully ordered world, she is devastated. Her plans and dreams for the future seem distant and unattainable, and she is bound by a promise to care for two young adults who are struggling with a loss of their own.

Continuing their journey north to the goldfields seems their only option, and Adrik Ivanov agrees to be their guide. With a late start and the constant threat of winter hastening their pace, Adrik wonders at the wisdom of their decision. But he longs to prove his commitment and growing love for Karen, who has pushed aside his advances in the past.

Inspired by the beautiful and rugged landscape, Karen thrives under the difficult conditions of their trek. As her heart begins to journey back to the core of her once-solid faith, will she dare to embrace the love offered to her?

This is one of Tracie Peterson's best series. She makes it exciting and draws you into the book, while also having some very good parts about God and faith. These books were the first of hers I read, and they remain my favorite.
Karen, Grace, and Karen's aunt Doris are three of the most diverse characters I've seen in a book that remain fast friends. Grace is meek and shy; Karen is anxious for women to be seen as humans and have equal rights; Doris is an old spinster with a straight-forward view of life, believing in the education of women and children.

When heartache and loss invade Karen Pierce's world, she is devastated. Karen must look deep within her heart and to see what's keeping her from being close to the Lord as well as the man she loves and doesn't even realize it!

I have just discovered Tracie Peterson's books. I have read two in this series so far. "Ashes and Ice" is set in Alaska in 1898. It is suspenseful and realistic about the hardships. A very good read.

This second in the trilogy is much better than the first Yukon Quest.

Drama and adventure abound in this historical novel by one of my favorite authors.
