Although this book had a happy ending, it was so depressing reading the rest of the book that I went around feeling Berta's depressed feeling for several days. If that had been the first Janette Oke book I read, I wouldn't have read any more. Fortunately I've read enough of hers to know that The Bluebird and the Sparrow isn't her normal writing style. Although she puts sorrow in her books, they don't take up the entire book with depressed feelings.
