Book Description:
Vampires have always lived in Eastern Europe. But with the fall of the Soviet Union, they began to spread across the continent, then the world, turning whole populations into vampires--or human cattle. Having overrun India, the far East, and the great cities of North and South America, the forces of Night are now spreading into the countryside to consolidate their conquest.

In a town on the New Jersey shore, the vampires have just arrived, along with their human henchmen, the cowboys, who round up human cattle for the overlords in return for the promise of eternal life---later. For the vampires wish only a few of their own kind to rule, and feed. The rest of humanity are to be helpless herds, the source of the blood of life.

Falsely accused of abuse, Father Dan is drunk in a basement waiting for the end. His superior has betrayed the local Catholic congregation and become a vampire. Sister Carolyn has become a formidable killer of cowboys and vampires. Dan's niece, escaped from the conquest of New York, has made her way south to find him. Brought together by Rabbi Zev Wolpin, who is shaken by the vampires' fear of the cross and holy water, they plan their resistance. Against all odds, they discover that there just might be a way for humanity to really fight back. But first they will have to kill the vampire king of New York.

A pleasant change from the modern vampire novels (where vampires are the protags, and sit around and whine all the time). The vampires have taken over - can a priest, a rabbi, a nun and a lesbian do anything about it?

No, really, it's good. It's fun. Fast paced and gritty. Good stuff.

A great vampire book! F. Paul Wilson makes them scary again, and gives humanity little hope against the creatures. Best of all? NO sparkly, boring vampires in sight!

This was the first F. Paul Wilson book i read and like and really liked it a lot. Enough to read a lot of his other books, and haven't been disappointed yet. This isn't like a lot of vampire books that try to be romantic, or make you feel for the misjudged vampire. Nice to see some vicious vampires again. Like Salems lot, only they have taken over the whole U.S. soon to be whole world. This is definitely my kind of vampire novel.

Without a doubt, one of the better horror books I've read in a LONG time. I really enjoyed it & couldn't put it down. I've just ordered a couple of his other books because of this one.

A pretty good read about vampires trying to take over the world. As the story starts, they've already taken over most of Europe with the USA being one of the last holdouts. The story centers on the battle between vampires & the surviving humans who still are hiding out along the NJ shore. The locale alone makes it a fun read for residents of NJ - as many shore landmarks are mentioned. Lots of horror & gore, with an interesting cast of characters you can't help but like.
