Book Description:
Frances Mayes entered a wondrous new world when she began restoring an abandoned villa in the spectacular Tuscan countryside. There were unexpected treasures at every turn: faded frescos beneath the whitewash in her dining room, a vineyard under wildly overgrown brambles in the garden, and, in the nearby hill towns, vibrant markets and delightful people. In Under the Tuscan Sun, she brings the lyrical voice of a poet, the eye of a seasoned traveler, and the discerning palate of a cook and food writer to invite readers to explore the pleasures of Italian life and to feast at her table.

I loved reading this book. Europe has always been my future and nothing would be better than recreating a part of its past. plus, reading this it made me really hungry because she was cooking seeminly delightful treats all the time!

Interesting story, slow at times. Large focus on food-even had recipes! Very different from the movie, but still a great read!

I personally found it annoying to read about someone else's travels in this Tuscan paradise. It was more about the country and the food than having a particular plot that sucked me in. It's like listening to your neighbors talk about their Italian vacation. Great, when do I get to go?

The true account of Frances Mayes life in Tuscany. Her writings describe her life with such imagry that you almost feel like you are there with her. This is a true account, unlike the movie. I really enjoyed it.

This book is so much better than the movie. It is a well-written story of Italy, remodeling a house and discovering Italian cooking and the beautiful country side and it's inhabitants.

I just could not get past the beginning.

There are only a handful of books that I started and never finished, this was one of them. It's a great story, buying a house in Italy and restoring it. But I really don't care about what paint you chose that you talked about for 4 pages. And how you dug up some pots in the back yard that you have now restored. She talks about going to the market to buy fresh produce in every chapeter. We understand that the tomatos are the freshest you have ever seen. Whop-di-do.

How exciting would it be to get away from it all and go to Italy and buy an abandoned villa in the Tuscan countryside! A girl can always dream.
