Book Description:
'Tis the season to be wary . . .

Christmas is coming and all is far from calm in Pointe Judah, Louisiana. Newcomer Christian DeAngelo -- Angel to his friends -- is at his wit's end trying to manage Sonny, the hotheaded nineteen-year-old everyone believes is his nephew. In fact, Sonny is the orphaned son of a notorious mob boss, a protected witness . . . and Angel's responsibility.

Angel has been commiserating with Eileen Moggeridge, whose lonely son Aaron has latched on to Sonny and gotten into deeper trouble than ever. But nothing could prepare Angel and Eileen for the boys' latest crisis: as they are horsing around in the swamp one afternoon, a shot rings out. Aaron is hit, but was the bullet meant for Sonny?

Suddenly, a goodwill toward men is in short supply and Angel doesn't know who's more dangerous: the hoodoo mystic with an eerie hold over the boys, the hit man roaming the bayou or Eileen's volatile ex-husband, Chuck.

First book that I've read by this particular author. I personally found it somewhat mediocre. Billed as romantic suspense, neither the romance or the suspense was particularly outstanding. I also found that in some areas the author's choice of phrasing made reading a little hard going. Either I couldn't tell which character was speaking, or it made little sense in the current context.

The book wasn't a bad book but I had trouble getting through it. I was confused on some of the story line and trying to keep the characters straight. I'm sure that was attributed more towards how long it took me to get through this. Normally I would have finished a book of this size in a one-two days. This took me over a week and I had to keep forcing myself not to give up on it.

I did like the main characters but there were numerous secondary characters that I couldn't keep straight. I couldn't tell from the books description if this was a part of a series but I did like the potential for the storyline. The romance was minimal but the mystery did keep me guessing until the end.

*** This may help when reading. This is part of a series by Stella Cameron http://www.stellacameron.com/linked.html as part of the Bayou series. If you're familiar with any of these books you'll have an easier time than I did with some of the characters. You don't need to have read them before but there were some things in the book I thought I should have known but it wasn't integral to the story/mystery in this book.
