Demon's Kiss (Wings in the Night, Bk 1) Author:Maggie Shayne
Book Description:
Even by vampire standards, Reaper is a loner, and his current mission to destroy a gang of rogue bloodsuckers is definitely a one-vamp job. Then fate takes a hand, and before he knows it, he's surrounded by a ragtag crew of misfit helpers: the newbie, the princess, the shape-shifter and the human healer.
Seth is new to immortality, but he's sharp and strong—and he'll risk anything for the rogues' strange female captive, a secretive creature he doesn't understand but feels compelled to save.
Vixen is confused by the emotions that swirl through her at the sight of her impulsive hero. She only hopes the brutal Gregor and his bloodthirsty renegades will leave her alive long enough to explore them.
Or will Reaper himself be the one to destroy them all?

Set in the same world as her other vampire novels, this book takes a little different bent: We follow not a couple, but a whole troupe of unusual individuals. Seth is linked to Vixen and must save her. Reaper has an unusual attraction for darkly twisted Briar. Jack stole from Topaz, but she still loves him. I've never had to keep up with so many characters and couples in one of this author's novels. It was distracting.
Seth is a newly made vampire, learning the ropes and caught up in this adventure because of his own strong link to another newly-made vampire, Vixen, who is also a werefox(!) and a tortured prisoner that Seth must rescue.
Reaper is a vampire assassin and Seth's maker. Gregor is also a vampire and is the one holding Vixen. Briar is a member of Gregor's team and the terribly twisted torturer of Vixen.
If you are a regular Shayne reader, some characters and situations will be familiar: Rhiannon makes a cameo appearance. Roxanne/Roxy the one Chosen who will not die young of her affliction, plays a significant role. Jack and Topaz are just silly vampires. Toward the end of the book, we meet Ilyana, another Chosen who apparently heads off into the sunset for her own future book.
Shayne writes well enough to keep my attention, and I usually really like her books, the most interesting thing about which are her characters. I liked some of these characters, but others drove me crazy with their stupidity. You'll just have to try it for yourself.

Maggie Shayne's "Wings of the Night" series...paranormal lovers pay attention. This book is a keeper! Good vs evil...vampire style. Contains a hero or two...a villian or two...a heroine or two...hmmmm, could one of the villians be a herione in an upcoming story...ooooh!
The cast...
Reaper- a vampire enforcer...surprisingly not his story but he is the main character...hmmm, make the read look forward to his romance!!!
Seth- a newbie vampire (and also the hero of this story)
Vixen- a shape shifting fox (and also the heroine of this story)
Topaz- a "princess" vampire (w/ a broken-hearted grudge)
Roxy- a human healer (one with the Belladonna antigen/ability to become a vampire)
Briar- a villainess (or a victim...depends on how you look at it)
Gregor- the villianious vampire leader
Couldn't put the book down...can't wait to read the next book in the series!!!

Maggie Shayne continues her vampire writings with a new group of the undead. Reaper is a former CIA assassin turned vampire who is sent on a mission to find and destroy rogue vampire Gregor. Along the way, he acquires a group including Vixen a shape shifter vampiress and Seth a young vampire whom he created. This is a nice start to what should be a great new vampire series from Shayne, who does them so well.

This is my first Maggie Shayne book and I'm hooked. Loved the story line and all the characters. The thing that surprised me the most (while reading this in the auto garage waiting room) was that it had me laughing out loud at some places(Timmy's in the well... We get it!) I can't wait to read more about some of the other characters who played a big part in this book! I would highly recommend reading this if you're even remotely interested!!

She never disappoints. Reaper is a loner and a vampire, Seth is a new vampire and Vixen is a secretive creature. They all must rid themselves and the world of Gregor and his renagades. Will they?
Great read! Loved the mix of characters. Was hooked from the beginning and now can't wait to read the next one!!!

At this writing I'm reading Lover's Bite, the next one after Demon's Kiss. I like them, but I think she has stepped away from the characters in all the other books before these two, the very reason I read the series. Sometimes veering off in a different direction works, as in Handleland's werefolf series, however not in this case. Hopefully, she'll bring them back.
