Death of a Hussy (Hamish MacBeth, Bk 5) Author:M. C. Beaton
Book Description:
Wealthy Maggie Baird is neither nice nor kind nor generous. Once she was beautiful, but now, although middle-aged, she retains the appetites of a beautiful woman. When Maggie's car catches fire with her inside it, suspicion focuses on the five houseguests staying at Maggie's luxurious Highlands cottage: her timid niece and four former lovers, once of whom Maggie had intended to pick for a husband. All five are impecunious. All five had ample opportunity to monkey with Maggie's car. So finding who did it requires all Police Constable Hamish Macbeth's extraordinary common sense and insight into human nature. And lazy lout though he may be, Hamish lets no grass grow under his feet when it comes to solving a murder. Especially when he may be the next target.

#5 in the Hamish MacBeth series. A wealthy woman is killed when her car catches fire. Technically she died of a heart attack, but everyone in her household knew of her weak heart, so who was it who planted the incendiary device? Her mousy niece? One of the four gentleman suitors whom she'd invited so she could choose a husband? Or someone else? Hamish is on the case! Once again, his superiors want to write this off as an accident, but when Hamish finds proof that the car was made to catch fire and then another dead body turns up, it's pretty obvious that's not the case. As always, an enjoyable quick read.

Like all of Beaton books the Hamish MacBeth series is a not to be put down read. Maggie Baird has invited her neice and four former lovers, one of whom she had intended to pick for a husband, to stay with her at her Highland cottage. Maggies car catches fire, with Maggie in it and there are five likely perpetators right on the premises.

The fifth book in the series.
Hamish investigates the murder of a former "professional girlfriend".
Did her henpecked niece or one of her former lovers do her in?

Hamish Macbeth just wants peace and instead he gets a murder and more suspects than he can count on one hand.
