An archeologist digs up a nasty vampiress who then proceeds to wreak havoc in Paris. The only ones who can stop her are Lucian, a good vampire from Drake's previous book (Deep Midnight); the enigmatic Brent, who may have supernatural abilities; and Tara Mason, a narrow-minded American whose grandfather happens to be a member of the Alliance, an age-old group dedicated to containing evil. An assortment of other characters join the mix including Tara's flippant French cousin, her mysterious beaux, a determined police inspector, a creepy investigator and a clueless young couple but they only detract from the central romance between Brent and Tara

A fun read about the history of vampires and werewolves set in the outskirts of Paris. My only complaint is that in an effort to add to the "spooky" or mysterious tone of the book there's lots of confusion about who people are. Names change as time passes and the good guys/bad guys are intentionally confused. This reader was irritated rather than spooked.

Great book!
In 1944 in an ancient churchyard just outside Paris, archeologists uncover an ancient tomb and something goes frighteningly wrong. Fast forward to present day, Tara Mason is visiting Europe and is chilled by the sinister goings on. She is fleeing from a legendary, sensual predator who stalks the night and wants to claim her body and soul. She must trust her protection to a shadowy man who calls himself a guardian, who has sworn to protect the innocent from an evil most never see.

Great book, especially if you like the mythology of vampires and werewolves.

In an ancient churchyard just outside PARIS, archeologists uncover an ancient tomb- certain they have stumbled onto the find of the century. But something goes terribly wrong as the tomb is opened. Something too frightening to imagine...and too terrible to utter...

The bad news - if you've read one, you've read them all. Pretty much.
The good news - if you like Shannon Drake and her stories, you'll love it!
After having read so many of her stories, I'm pretty well sated.

When an ancient tomb is uncovered in Paris, something goes horribly wrong. For American visitor Tara Mason, the romantic city of her dreams suddenly turns sinister. At the country estate where he seeks refuge, a shadowy man calls himself a guardian. He is sworn to protect the innocent, including Tara, and from the evil that won't stop until it claims her, body and soul.

Every Nightmare has its beginning. In an ancient churchyard just outside Paris, archeologists uncover and ancient tomb--certain they have stumbled onto the find of the century. But something goes very wrong as the tomb is opened. Something too frightening to imagine...and too terrible to utter. For American visitor Tara Mason, the romantic city of her dreams has suddenly turned sinister. For she has heard the blood-curdling screams in the churchyard--and knows that she must run away--from the powerful stranger chasing after her and from a legendary, sensual predator who stalks the night.
WOW! Great read.
