BOOK ONLY - "Frog went a-courtin' and he did ride, m, hm". Or is it "A froggie went a-courtin' and he did ride, uh, huh?" Or maybe "Mister Frog..." Which way is correct? They all are, of course, because folk songs are songs of the people that have passed down from generation to generation, changing slightly with each new singer and each new situation.
An integral part of our history, folk music helps us to know and understand our forefathers. We can enjoy their humor and imagination, experience their wonderful storytelling and larn about their customs, activities, interests, and emotions.
Children delight in singing these songs today, just as they did decades or even centuries ago. As you sing with them, perhaps you can add to the continual change of folk music when you say, "But I remember it this way..."
