Book Description:
Stephen King revisits five of his favorite short stories that have been turned into films: The Shawshank Redemption (based on the novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption") was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and best actor for Morgan Freeman. 1408 starred John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson and was a huge box office success in 2007. The short story "Children of the Corn" was adapted into the popular Children of the Corn. The Mangler was inspired by King's loathing for laundry machines from his own experience working in a laundromat. Hearts in Atlantis (based on "Low Men in Yellow Coats," the first part of the novel Hearts in Atlantis) starred Anthony Hopkins.

This collection features new commentary and introductions to all of these stories in a treasure-trove of movie trivia.

if you like stephen king & you like movies....you'll really like this book !! it contains 5 of his short stories ( children of the corn - 1408 - the mangler - the shawshank redemption - hearts in atlantis ) that have been adapted for the movies ! new introductions, commentary, & film insights by king. if you saw the movies but havn't read the stories, you're in for a real treat. if you have read them you'll enjoy king's input as you read them again !! personally i think, while there are few great authors in this genre, none do it as well or as disturbingly as king.

This is a great book. It has some of King's best stories that were made into films. If youv'e seen the films then this book is so worth the read. Like they always say - The story is better than the movie. That is so true. Included in this book are 1408, The Shawshank Redemption, The Mangler plus more...

Somehow, the publisher needed to make money, I guess. I expected more than a paragraph or two from Stephen King, but that is all we get in this book, which republishes several King tales. Having said that, if you haven't read the actual Children of the Corn, the story behind Hearts in Atlantis the film, Shawshank Redemption, 1408, or the Mangler, you are in for a real treat. If you've read one of these and not all, then, again, this is worth reading. I hadn't read the Mangler or 1408 or the backstory for Hearts in Atlantis. And, the book is WORTH just one or two stories, regardless.

If you are a Stephen King fan, or just someone who likes compelling stories, this is for you! It is fun to read King's "take" on the films that were made from his stories, even if these are short snippets.
