In Promise, Texas, people know what it is to depend on a friend - and how to be that friend. They know that family, home, community are the things that really count. They know that love gives meaning to every single day of their lives.
Some of the people in Promise are from old ranching families - like the Westons and the Pattersons, who first came to hill country more than a century ago. And there are newcomers like Annie Applegate, who's looking for peace and finds a great deal more. She agrees to marry a widowed veterinarian for the sake of his children...and discovers that marriage can lead to love.
In Promise, everyone's life is a story! The people here, like people everywhere, experience tragedies as well as triumphs, sorrow as well as joy. This town, like towns everywhere, has its share of secrets. But - whether times are good or bad - you're never alone in a place like Promise. And that makes all the difference.

This is a return trip to Promise, Texas. You will revisit old friends and meet some new characters. If you read the Heart of Texas series by Debbie Macomber this is a nice way to finish the series.

Return to Promise, Texas, with a rich and warm novel that picks up where the "Heart of Texas" Harlequin miniseries left off. The town in the Texas hill country is chock-full of folks who are hard-working, proud and just a little sassy. They live on an emotional roller coaster of love and loss.

fast read. romantic the writer Debbie Macomber weaves an interesting plot of characters.
wo years ago in California, a car accident left her near perfect figure with ugly scars and a limp. Her spouse divorced her so when her childhood friend Dr. Jane Patterson invited Annie Applegate to relocate to Promise, Texas, she accepts and opens up a successful book store.
The two precocious children of widow Lucas Porter love going to Annie's book store. Lucas, who refuses to entangle himself in another loving relationship, also cannot resist the lure of the newcomer. When his housekeeper leaves town, Lucas offers a marriage of convenience that will help him with his children while helping each other put off the loneliness of having no companion. However, this is Promise where love always enters the picture.
Fans of Debbie Macomber's great "Heart of Texas" series will be elated that the awesome author returns to Promise with a fabulous novel. The story line reads more like interconnecting vignettes that only Ms. Macomber could keep interesting and straight. The brief description above describes only one of the numerous relationships that are progressing in Promise. Old friends return such as Dovie and Frank, and new buddies arrive such as Jeanie. One promise that readers know is that Ms. Macomber provides the top in entertaining relationship dramas.
