Book Description:
All Her Life She Has Longed For The Forbidden Things, But Will Her Dreams Come At A Price Too Dear To Pay?

In the quiet Amish community of Hickory Hollow, Pennsylvania, time has stood still while cherished traditions and heartfelt beliefs have flourished. But a secret lies buried that could shatter the tranquility its inhabitants have grown to love.

When Katie Lapp stumbles upon a satin infant gown in the dusty leather trunk of her parents' attic, she knows it holds a story she must discover. Why else would her Amish mother, a plain and simple woman who embraces the Old Order laws, hide the beautiful baby dress in the attic?

On the eve of Katie's wedding to widower Bishop John, startling news staggers out of her anguished parents, and nothing prepares Katie for the devastation their confession brings. Feeling betrayed, Katie watches as the only life she has ever known begins to unravel, leaving in its wake a furrow of pain...and a future of hope.

Katie Lapp was raised in a quiet Amish community in PA. On the eve of Katie's wedding she learns startling news that devastates her and sends her on a mission to find out who she really is. When she pulls away from Amish tradition, and won't repent before the church, she is shunned by the Amish community and her own family.

This book shows the Amish way of life. It is light reading and could be appropriate reading for teens. I liked the insight into the Amish. Their life is so simple and humble. It is a nice example of another way.

I enjoyed this book, and learned a lot about the Amish. A very enjoyable read, and a twist ending.

I enjoyed learning about Amish culture and traditions through this series of books. (First in a series that also includes "The Confession" and "The Reckoning"). The main character learns that her life may not be what she's been taught.

I liked the idea that this was more than a peak into another culture right here in our own country. She has an insider's view of Amish life and its restrictions. My trips to Lancaster County, PA, will be much more informed as a result.

Book one of a series of stories taking place in an amish community. Interesting, but more just an easy quick read than an entertaining one!
