For once, a book as good as the hype. The narration is exceptional, and the story is universal. Set in the South in the 60's, right after the passing of the civil rights act, this story is a particularly good one to read now - as our country takes another giant step forward....

Story of a young white girl dealing with the death of her mother. She runs away to escape her abusive father. She befriends a black family during a time when there was still an issue of whites socializing with blacks. A heart warming story, that was enjoyable to listen to. Highly recommend.
Very heart warming and heart wrenching coming of age story. I really enjoyed the experience of hearing the story told out loud.

(Note: This is a licensed copy of the book purchased from Audible.com and burned to CDs.) A neglected young girl (Lily) and her colored nanny run away from home in South Carolina as the Civil Rights movement heats up. Looking for information about her late mother, Lily and Rosaleen head to Tiburon, SC and are taken in by a trio of beekeeping sisters.
