The Game of Thrones continues...who will win is anybody's guess. In the east, Daenerys Targaryen rules with her three dragons as a queen of a city built on dust and death.Fleeing from Westeros with a price on his head, Tyrion Lannister is making his way to Daenerys. Jon Snow is guarding the Wall and is about to face his greatest challenge, not only beyond the Wall but among the Watch. Winter Comes....and it brings a darkness of souls. The Houses will betray each other, intimate alliances will smolder....the cold seeps to the bone. The story will continue, hopefully with less voyages and more character study. This book is 1000 pages and while not my favorite, it does continue the saga and line up the characters for another major confrontation.

Though this story dealt with horrid violence, it may leave the reader feeling a sense of... peace. I'm not sure if peace is the right word, or if there is another word that could define the feeling exactly. Whatever the word, it replaces the anger, the unfairness, the heartache that bubbles up after reading the first couple of chapters. Sebold slowly takes you by the hand and leads you through a tragedy of a young student and how it affects her family and friends. More remarkable, she lets you see it through the victim's eyes and heart. Great book, soon to be a movie in 2009.

This book was perfect for my Sunday school lesson to the K-2 students I teach. We used a real pumpkin and it was the Sunday before Halloween.

Extremely deep... the story is filled with many allegories, some not so easy to detect. The facets of love are unraveled but not as clearly as one would expect.
