"A magnificent tale of heart-stopping suspense from the highly acclaimed master of the genre. The Rocky Mountains, Winter 1873! One of the most desolate stretches of railroad in the West. Travelling along it is a crowded troop train, bound for the cholera-stricken garrison at Fort Humboldt. On board are the Governor of Nevada, the daughter of the fort's commander and a US marshal escorting a notorious outlaw. Between them and safety are the hostile Paiute Indians - and a man who will stop at nothing, not even murder!"
This is what Michael Moorcock was up to before all of the Elric stuff. Kind of like a sci-fi Austin Powers with out the comedy and the Bond references. A little dated with 60's psychedelic culture, but a lot of fun if you're into that era.
This paperback contains 4 novels:
The Final Programme
A Cure for Cancer
The English Assassin
The Condition of Muzak
Book 2 in a 3-part series by Timothy Zahn. These books take place in the time right after the Return of the Jedi movie. While the empire has been defeated there are still parts of the empire still in power. Zahn weaves a good story about a pocket of resistance that could possibly overthrow the new republic.
"Shevek, a brilliant physicist, decides to take action. he will seek answers, question the unquestionable, and attempt to tear down the walls of hatred that have isolated his planet of anarchists from the rest of the civilized universe. To do this dangerous task will mean giving up his family and possibly his life. Shevek must make the unprecedented journey to the utopian mother planet, Anarres, to challenge the complex structures of life and living, and ignite the fires of change."
Epic. Book one in the "Wheel of Time" series. I had to get about a quarter of the way into it before it picked up steam, but once it did I loved it. If you like "Lord of the Rings" style fantasy epics this is first rate.
Warning....you will not get much done around the house until you finish reading the book. Start reading way before bedtime.
If you've read the first four than this one doesn't need much of an introduction. This book has the same quality of the first books. Jordan ties up some loose ends in the plot and also introduces some new characters and threads, adding more depth to the world he's created.
This is a collection of Asimov shorts. Great stuff for someone who wants to get a taste of what he is about as a science fiction writer. If you're already a fan of his writing here are about 50+ short stories you'll want to read.
This is a collection of short stories from Patrick F. McManus who used to write a column for Outdoor Life. You don't have to be a greate ourdoorsman to enjoy this book, it will make you laugh until your sides hurt.
This is a really fun read. Not too complex, but Zahn adds depth to the Star Wars universe that was missing from the movies. You can't put all of the Star Wars books in the same category as there are so many different writers. I never read and sci-fi by Zahn before, but I'm going to try some more now. This is book one in a 3 part series.
Book 3 in a 3-part series. These books were a lot of fun. They moved really fast with a lot of action. Timothy Zahn's story starts up right after the movie Return of the Jedi. The new republic has been formed but some emperial elements still exist, some strong enough to return the empire to power...what happens? Read the books and see!
