I did not read this book, but my husband did and liked it. From the back: Federal Chief Investigator Nick LeRue has brought down some of the smoothest operators on Capitol Hill and uncovered dangerous secrets in politicians' pasts. But the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend, investigative journalist Heather Cole, leads Nick down a dangerous path. Fueled by Heather's twin sister, Melanie, and her visions of her sister being held captive by an unseen man, Nick follows Heather's trail from Washington, DC, to the small town of Pushmataha, Mississippi. It appears that Heather may have been close to uncovering this town's darkest and bloodiest secret, but the town's residents will do anything to keep that secret from getting out. And as Melanie's visions become increasingly darker and more frightening, it's up to Nick to reveal what the town so desperately wants to keep hidden, and save Heather from the brutal hands of the Pushmataha powers that be.

I did not read this book. My husband did, and he liked it a lot. From the back: Harvard professor Wilson Chaney has a secret and somebody knows it. His adulterous affair with a freshman ended just weeks before she wound up dead. The sole trace of his infatuation is a stack of missing love letters -- and they've fallen into the wrong hands. Carlotta Carlyle takes the case to find his blackmailer and retrieve the letters. Six-foot-one and red-haired, this private eye doesn't blink when the going gets tough..... she must zero in on Boston's mean streets and talk her way into Harvard's inner sanctums, uncovering in the process just how intertwined the two are -- and just how deadly the stakes can be.

This is such an extremely exciting audio book, I hardly remember the 4-hour drive home yesterday! Characters are well done, and you cheer for the good guys and jeer at the bad ones. I was disappointed to have it end....

Beautifully written book of the intergenerational relationship between two women and their loves. As Anne Rivers Siddons says on the back, "Beth Gutcheon speaks truly and poignantly of two places that haunt me -- the rich, dark country of the Maine coast and the rich, dark country of the human heart."

Wonderful story about the relationship between sisters -- what can drive them apart and what can bring them back together again.
