"Beautifully written, with well-drawn characters and scenic imagery. A very touching story, taking place from the outbreak of WW2, in New England."

"Shute is a gifted writer, and in this book does a creditable job of comparing the US to Australia, plus pointing out some interesting prejudices. I loved it."

"Nevil Shute is a great story-teller, and engages one's interest from the beginning."

"I found this to be a fabulous book. Cochrane is the real-life hero that Horatio Hornblower and Jack Aubrey of Master and Commander is based on. All those exploits in those movies were real! The story is very well done and gripping, reading almost like fiction. Cochrane had his problems, but he was a true hero and a great man."

"I enjoyed reading this book, and found it well-written and believable."

"Pornographic. Has NO relation to the quote used at the beginning from Charlotte Bronte about showing the passions of the characters. I hardly think she meant in a pornographic way."

"This was a great story about an elderly English gentleman who ends up taking seven children back to England from France right after the Nazi invasion. I believe it is based on a true story."

"Card makes these characters come to life, while being completely true to the scriptural accounts. I loved this series."

"Really well-written medieval mystery; Sister Frevisse is very believable and it's just a great read."

"McKinley just does a masterful job of fleshing out a fairy tale and making it a believable, if fantasy, story. I love her work! This is, of course, Sleeping Beauty."

"This would have gotten five stars from me if not for an unfortunate two paragraphs in the middle of the book that really were pornographic and totally out of place in the book. Excise those, and it was a great story."
